The Pashtuns are the mountain people who live in North West Pakistan and about half of Afghanistan.

Under normal conditions, Jegdalek would be considered a satellite village of the capital, Kabul, which is only an eighty-kilometre drive to the southeast.

But in a country ravaged by more than a quarter-century of war, it is a world apart, accessible only by truck after a punishing four-hour journey through minefields and narrow gorges. It is my translator Bashir’s hometown and for me a symbol of the vicissitudes of Afghanistan’s modern history.

When needing documents translated for use in Afghanistan Pashto and Dari can be used as they are both official languages.

Pashto is seen by some as more nationalistic than Dari which is a Dialect of Persian.

The need to translate many documents when applying for funding with the various UN and international agencies requires high quality translations that fully and accurately reflect the source documents.
